Configuring Windows 95 Dial-Up Networking to Connect with LWEB

Use these instructions on a new PC only.  If you are switching from another provider try
instructions with pictures or without pictures.
1. Bring up the 
Control Panel  
window by clicking 
START   then 
/Settings/Control Panel 
 
2. Double Click Network Icon
3. Regardless of What anyone says, unless you are on an office or home network, click Dial Up Adapter and then click remove.
4. Click Add, Protocol, Add
5. Click Microsoft, 
TCP/IP, then OK
6. You may be asked to select an adapter device.  If so select 
Microsoft and Dial Up Adapter then click 
7. Your display should show 5 Compents, Ending in TCP/IP
8. Click IPX/SPX Compatible Protocol and then ClickRemove
9. Click TCP/IP and then Click
10. Click WINS Configuration. Click Disable WINS Resolution.
11. Click DNS Configuration.  Tick Enable DNS and Fill in the Data as Follows

Host: Dialup
Domain: lweb.net
DNS Servers 209.205.45.34  (Click Add)  142.77.1.1 (Click Add)
Domain Suffix Search Order  lweb.net (Click Add) uunet.ca (Click Add)

Search order entries are entered in the Data Entry Area and then made active with a click of the correct Add button. 

When Done ClickOK

12. Click Identification 
and ensure that each box has something filled in. The actual words you fill in don't matter, unless you are running an office or home network. Then Click 
OK
13. At this point one of two things may happen.  You may be asked to insert the Windows 95 CD.  DO that.  In any case the computer will ask if it can reboot.  Say Yes.
14. When Your system restarts you may be asked to enter a Password.  Enter your username but DO NOT ENTER A PASSWORD AT THIS POINT 
Click  
When asked to confirm the blank password Click  
 
15. Bring up the 
Dial Up Networking  
window by clicking 
START   then 
/Programs/Accessories 
/Dial Up Networking 
 
16. Double Click 
Make New Connection 

Replace the words 

My Connection 

with 

LWEB 

Click Next

17. Fill in Our Area 
Code 519 and our 
Dial Up Number 
679-6677 
Change the Country 
Code to Canada 

Click Next

18. Click Finish
19. Click the LWEB Icon Once (You may have to scroll the Dial Up Networking Window to See It) 

The LWEB Icon should be highlighted. 
 

If a Connect to LWEB screen displays click 
Cancel 
(You Double Clicked by Mistake)
20. Click File then Properties
21. Unclick Use Country Code and Area Code
23. Click Server Type 
(On Older Versions on Windows 95 this is a Button at the Bottom of the Page, Beside Configure)
24. Unclick 
Login to Network 
NetBEUI 
IPX/SPX Compatible 

Click OK  If You are not in the Dial Up Network Window Click OK
 

25.  Click once on the LWEB Icon then click 
FILE/Create Shortcut. 

Answer YES to the silly error message, 
then Close Dial Up Networking

26. Open Control Panel with START then Settings/Control Panel and Double Click the Internet Button
27. Click the Connection Tab and Click the Box Connect to the Internet as needed then select the LWEB connection by clicking on the Down Arrow 

Click Apply

28. Click the Navigation Tab.  Change the Start Page from http://home.microsoft.com to some other site 
Click OK
29. Close Control Panel
30. Double Click on the Shortcut to LWEB
31. Fill in your Username and Password. 
Click Save Password. 
Click  

Your Phone should dial and connect.

32. Use your favorite Web Applications
